THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, USA, 2013
The Wolf of
Wall Street Movie Review
Summary:
With a run time of almost 3 hours Martin Scorsese has brought to the
screens an incredible insight into what goes on in those worlds of the high
wall street finance in “The wolf of wall street”. Directed by Martin Scorsese
and featuring the talented Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort.
Set in the late ‘80s, a fresh-faced Jordan Belfort arrives on the
streets of Wall Street with big dreams of achieving wealth in whatever ways
possible. Along with his right-hand man Donnie Azoff (Jonah Hill) Jordan soon
learns that he’s got himself involved in a drug industry where the suit and tie
world doesn’t exist. Rather than an orderly society, this era is marked as one
where everything exceeds boundaries, in which people exploit others with no consideration
or empathy.
With Jordan’s rise to fame came an increasing craving for those more
expensive experiences. As the movie sweeps you away into glittering parties and
excessive living it’s hard not to feel a sense of overindulgence yourself! But
it doesn't stop there. Jordan’s company, Stratton Oakmont, deals mainly with
penny stocks and their shenanigans could have made them quite a fortune.
During all this turbulence, and soaring wealth, the FBI smells a rat.
The movie has you sitting on the edge of your couch as Jordan and his team
navigates a corrupt world of lies, extravagance, and heightening criminal
charges.
The performances in "The Wolf of Wall Street" are nothing
short of spectacular. Leonardo DiCaprio delivers a tour de force performance as
Jordan Belfort, capturing the character's charm, charisma, and moral
bankruptcy. Jonah Hill, as Donnie Azoff, provides comic relief with his
eccentricities and unwavering loyalty.
Directed by Martin Scorsese, The Wolf of Wall Street is non-stop
action-packed, making the audience feel as if they’re inside Jordan Belfort’s
chaotic life itself. Combined with its fantastic soundtrack and editing, it is
certainly an intense movie – cinematic amusement park ride that you do not want
to step away from any time soon.
Beneath its flashy exterior, “The Wolf of Wall Street” probes deeper
issues such as “what sacrifices are people willing to make for ambition?” “What
is wealth worth in terms of morality?” and “to what degree does unrestrained
appetite lead to run It has no sermon, it just lingers in the head as you
consider the moral lines each of us face when riches and power call.
Criticism about Acting and Story
Realization/Implementation
Acting:
The roles in “The Wolf of Wall Street” are phenomenal. Leonardo DiCaprio
gives a sterling performance playing the role of Jordan Belfort- a dynamic
broker with no principles. He brings this spirit into the character that it
gets one entangled even as one is watching him act. DiCaprio embodies Belfort’s
contradictory nature, which manifests as a slick operator who knows how to sell
anything and anyone and a vicious opportunist motivated by avarice.
Hill’s portrayal of Jordan’s partner-in crime, Donnie Azoff offers a
fantastic counterpoint to DiCaprio’s role. The eccenticities of Hill’s timing
provide a unique element in the movie. These features, including his unfailing
loyalty and odd behavior, inject some humour to the story. Their scenes
together are among the film’s most memories and the chemistry between DiCaprio
and Hill is electrifying.
Story Realization/Implementation:
That is exactly what renowned director Martin Scorsese does using his
trademark style in “The Wolf of Wall Street”. The film runs at breakneck pace
that matches with Jordan Belfort’s manic existence. This is done honestly,
without any holds barred in depicting the excesses and debauchery prevalent
among the Wall Street Culture as directed by Scorsese.
The film’s most impressive feat is that it succeeds in making viewers
get inside Belfort’s life. Clever camera work and editing has given us a bird’s
eye view into the world of stock trading, its risks, glamour, and rewards. With
voiceovers of Jordan Belfort’s played by Leonardo DiCaprio, the film acquires
an element of intimacy, which invites spectators to enter the hero’s
consciousness even further.
Nonetheless, one should remember that the movie is thrilling and
exciting but does not avoid the more negative facets of Belfort’s life. It
portrays the excessive drugs usage, pornography scenes openly without any
remorse or apology. The film’s realism is sometimes unsettling to certain
viewers thus an aspect which polarizes the movie.
It may also make some people feel that the movie is too long and has
more than three hours duration. The pace of the plot, for the most part, is
rather swift. However, the narration at times appears protracted. However, some
may not be able to remain fully engaged for the full time.
Rating:
“The Wolf of Wall Street” should be rated at 9 out of 10 from the
cinematic point of view. This is a movie which captures your attention right
from the start and it holds you till the end. The film comes vividly alive
through direction by Martin Scorsese and a magnetic turn in by Leonardo
DiCaprio.
The story telling in this film is magnificent. This film is one of the
rare ones that balances humor, drama, and suspense properly. It pulls you in
and captures the adventure of young Jordan Belfort who is hard not to feel
sympathy and fear for.
All of them do a great job, the cast members with secondary roles such
as Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, and Matthew McConaughey. It is a cinematic
masterpiece that comes through in every detail ranging from its soundtrack to
its editing.
Educational Value:
While "The Wolf of Wall Street" primarily aims to entertain,
it does offer some educational value, earning it a solid 6/10. It's not a
traditional educational film, but it does provide insights into the world of
high finance and the consequences of unchecked ambition.
The movie sheds light on the darker side of the financial industry,
revealing how unethical behavior can lead to personal and professional
downfall. It doesn't shy away from depicting the consequences of greed,
addiction, and the pursuit of excess.
Moreover, "The Wolf of Wall Street" prompts viewers to reflect
on the ethics of wealth and power, sparking conversations about the morality of
financial success. It serves as a cautionary tale about the allure of the high
life and the dangers of unchecked ambition.
